Cover Songs by "The British Invasion" Artists: Singers, Musicians, and Songwriters

The early to mid-1960s brought many changes in the landscape of American pop music culture. One of the greatest and most influential additions to that new music scene were the British rock songwriters whose music excited young Americans anxious to find a new sound for their generation. Soon, these British bands and British songwriters were coming to the States to perform full-fledged new rock music concerts for their newfound fans. While there were many new music artists who "invaded" the US with their rock music, perhaps the most notable were bands like the Rolling Stones, the Who, and -- of course -- the Beatles. The Fab Four, as the latter were known, were the unequivocal leaders of the so-called British Invasion, as countless Beatles tracks topped the Billboard charts throughout the sixties. Their acoustic guitar music gradually incorporated more electric and experimental sounds and their popularity continued to surge. Lennon and McCartney, not to mention Harrison, really knew how to write a song, as was made clear when it became nothing new to see multiple Beatles songs in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100.

Nearly forty years after the Beatles broke up and the British Invasion passed, new acoustic rock cover songs are still being performed. Some bands, like Herman's Hermits, still perform in concerts and at local fairs. Because so many of these songs were composed by skilled songwriters with a talent for writing compelling new music, their material is easily translated to acoustic guitar and otherwise acoustic music. When you listen to the Laptop Sessions music video blog's cover song versions, you could imagine you were listening to new music. Imagine for a moment that you are listening to this song as though it had just been composed in its simplest form by the songwriter, preparing to add his sound to the glut of tracks that flooded in with the British Invasion.
